Whether you’re just curious about boudoir, or you’re planning your own boudoir session, I’ve created this Boudoir Outfit Ideas guide especially for you. This guide will not only help you decide What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session, but hopefully, it will show you that boudoir is so much more than just ‘typical’ sexy photos!

You might have noticed that in these past few months, I’ve been on a mission to share the very best of boudoir with you, both here and on Instagram. It’s my goal to break down any preconceived ideas that might be holding you back from booking your own boudoir session. Afterall, boudoir photography is an empowering celebration of women and it is truly so much fun. These portraits don’t have to be taken in a bedroom, and they don’t have to involve the ‘classic’ sexy poses – nor are your outfit choices limited to stereotypical sexy lingerie. In fact, there are so many options for What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session, so today, I’m really excited to be sharing my very own guide to Boudoir Outfit Ideas.

BOUDOIR OUTFIT IDEAS

What to Wear for Your Boudoir Shoot

As always, the number one priority for your boudoir session is that you feel absolutely comfortable. To make sure you’re able to really enjoy your session, I’ll work with you in the lead up to choose a location that you’ll feel best in and that allows you to really be yourself in front of the camera. I’m also more than happy to help you to figure out What to Wear for Your Boudoir Shoot if you still have questions after reading this blog post! It might be that you’re incredibly confident and you want to start the shoot in your sexiest lingerie set (do your thing!). If you’re a little nervous though, why don’t you start with something a little more casual? If you have a partner, you could even throw on one of their button downs or a favorite sports jersey of theirs to get started.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas: Something Casual

For those of you who love the idea of something a little more casual, a cute bra and panty set with some knee-high socks and a slouchy sweater is adorable! You could hang out in the kitchen while you make some tea (or crack open a bottle of wine), read a book snuggled on the couch, or try some of my favorite boudoir poses to get warmed up.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas: Glam Vibes

If you love a little bit of glamour, then sparkles and lace are the way to go! Bring along a few of your favorite lingerie sets or treat yourself to something new especially for the session. And if you’re a fan of the pin-up girl look, you could even treat yourself to a garter belt for the day for a little old-school glam.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas: Bridal Boudoir

If you’re getting married and planning your boudoir session as a treat for both yourself and your partner, then definitely bring your veil along (if you’re having one!). Veils are so beautiful to play with, whether they’re made with lace or a sheer gauze, and it will add an extra special touch to your boudoir session. Pair it with some beautiful white lingerie for that classic bridal look.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas: Body Suits

If you’re looking for some Boudoir Outfit Ideas for your session, and you want to wear something different to your everyday bras and panties, consider treating yourself to a bodysuit. Bodysuits are universally flattering, and I doubt that there are many of us who even think about slipping into one of these all that often!

Your Boudoir Photos: A Personal Touch

Just like every other kind of personal photo shoot, I’d really encourage you to stay true to who you are for your shoot. A fun way to make the shoot feel more ‘yours’ is to incorporate a personal touch into your Boudoir Outfit Ideas. Personally, I booked a boudoir session for myself last year and I brought my camera along. It’s such a big part of who I am and so it was really fun to get a few shots of me with my camera in hand. Some examples off the top of my head for how to personalize your boudoir session include:

  • Taking some portraits of you hanging out in the kitchen making some food if that’s something you love to do. You could even wear your favorite apron!

  • Reading a book while you snuggle up on the couch

  • Playing your instrument if you’re a musician

  • Tending to your plants if you love all things green

And of course, this list isn’t at all exhaustive! There are so many different options, and if you have an idea, don’t be afraid to let me know. I’d love nothing more than to help you create a boudoir portrait session that’s unique and true to you.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas: Nothing at All!

Of course, boudoir photos are all about showing off your incredible body (yes, I’m talking about your body because all bodies are beautiful!), so – as long as you’re up for it – I always recommend you do a few fully nude or topless photos at the end of the shoot. Let’s face it, our boobs are only going to get saggier as we get older, and no matter what you think of your body now, I guarantee you’ll absolutely appreciate your beautiful self (and younger boobs) when you are older.

Bonus Ideas!

  • Lingerie romper

  • Classic bra and panties

  • A fun wig

  • A smoke bomb for an outdoor shoot (used responsibly to avoid fire risk!)

  • Babydoll nightgown

  • Corsets

  • A blazer

  • A leather jacket

  • A bubble bath!
