Color can have a huge effect on your wedding day, but many people think the only way to incorporate their wedding colors into their wedding is through flowers and table decorations. While wedding florals are a huge way to incorporate color into your day, it’s not the only way. Today I’m sharing 4 other ways you can include color in your wedding that will allow you to create a truly unique and customized wedding day.

Include Your Wedding Colors in Your Getting-Ready Details

One of the first ways you can include your wedding color palette into your day is during your getting-ready photos. Details matter and not just because they make for amazing photos, but because details are the things that bring your unique personality to your wedding day.

During your getting-ready portion, think about items you would like to have with you as well as items that you’re simply drawn to for their beauty. This could be a ribbon that matches your wedding palette or a meaningful piece of jewelry set in a color-coordinated ring box.

If you want to go the extra mile, ask your florist if there are any extra blooms you can use for detail photos. (Most florists will have a few extra on hand just for this reason.) Flowers are a great way to add texture to your photos and they will also help tie all your details together.

If your wedding includes a bridal party, consider giving them matching sets to wear while you all get ready together. This doesn't just have to mean robes; it can also be a cute pajama set, matching shirts to wear, or anything else you’d like. Giving everyone matching outfits is not only a great way to bring color into your getting-ready photos, but it also makes for a nice gift for the people standing beside you on your special day.

Wedding Party and Guest Outfits

Speaking of your wedding party…A long-standing wedding trend is to dress the wedding party in your wedding colors. Sometimes this can look like them dressing in identical outfits, or choosing different outfits in varying hues of your wedding colors. While this trend is a classic, if you want to try something a little different, consider dressing your wedding party in neutral clothes so your florals pop even more. This provides a great contrast and a modern, clean look.

If you simply can’t resist adding all the color you can (hey - I don’t blame you), why not put your wedding party in an array of colors? This can give an even more seasonal look and feel to your wedding day. Besides, who says everyone needs to match? It’s your day, create your own rules!

Now, this next tip isn’t always possible, but another great idea that tends to work well for smaller weddings is to provide your guests with a recommended color palette. Having your guests wear clothes that match your wedding colors can help the day blend even more and can allow your family photos to feel more cohesive. It also helps prevent anyone from looking out of place in a crazy color.

Get Creative With Your Ceremony Decor

Rather than just having flowers on your ceremony arch or display, look for other ways to incorporate color. This could look like ribbons tied onto the chairs or ribbon wands for the guests to wave or flower petals they can throw as you walk back down the aisle.

Pro Tip - Covering the aisle with flower petals prior to the ceremony is a great way to get a lot more color in your photos. Plus, it makes sure there are petals on the ground even if your flower person gets stage fright.

Make Your Reception Pop with Color

Last but not least, your reception. This is where so many details of your day come to life and it’s a great opportunity to maximize color! On top of your table decorations and centerpieces, consider repurposing your ceremony arch by bringing it into your reception. Place it behind the sweetheart table or talk to your florist about creating a floral piece that can be moved to the table.

Did you know you can also include your wedding colors in your food and drinks? Your wedding cake is an obvious way to embrace your color palette, but again maybe you choose to go neutral to let your florals pop. Another fun idea is to create signature cocktails that are in the color of your choice. Your guests are sure to love this one!

When it comes to incorporating wedding colors into your wedding, there are so many options outside of florals. Think of your overall wedding theme and find ways to incorporate colors that go along with your theme. For example, for a moody, dark wedding, incorporate black where possible (ie - black tablecloths, bridesmaid dresses, black-on-black suits, etc.) This will give your wedding day an overall dark tone, consistent with your theme. And vice versa, light tablecloths and dresses will give a more airy feel to the day.

I hope these tips were helpful as you plan your 2023 and 2024 wedding colors.
