With Valentine’s day just around the corner, a boudoir photo shoot can be such a special and sexy gift for a partner or significant other! But in my years shooting Boudoir sessions, I’ve come to experience that these photographs are so much more than just a gift for someone else to treasure and enjoy. They are a gift for and a celebration of Y O U. Here are some of the reasons why I absolutely love these sessions, and why this Valentine’s day a boudoir photo shoot might not just be the perfect gift for your partner, but also for yourself!
WHY BOUDOIR IS A GIFT TO YOU
BODY-IMAGE EMPOWERMENT
A boudoir photoshoot is an opportunity to celebrate your body and the gift that it is, in all of its natural beauty! This kind of body image empowerment is so rare in our present-day culture. In social media, advertising, and nearly every outlet we encounter, overly edited and photoshopped images send not-so-subtle messages about what kind of body is valued and worth being photographed. With editing tools like apps and filters right at our fingertips, there is a very real pull to compare ourselves with some kind of agreed-upon standard of “perfection.” It’s no wonder that body confidence seems like something we can only embrace when we feel 100% at our “best” or “sexiest.”
But deciding your body is worthy of photographing is such an empowering step towards embracing positive body image! Instead of waiting to achieve an internally or externally imposed body goal or “ideal,” recognizing that your body deserves being celebrated exactly as it is in every season is such a beautiful gift to give yourself. Valentine’s day falls at a time post-holiday when many have a hard time with body image, and most would consider this *not* the ideal moment for a boudoir photoshoot! But I think it is actually a perfect time to exercise body confidence and create intentional space for self-expression and self-love.
A FUN-FILLED PHOTO SESSION THAT CELEBRATES YOU!
From the beginning to end, every moment of a boudoir photoshoot is about celebrating your unique and natural beauty — and these sessions are so much fun! I encourage my clients to bring lingerie and outfit pieces that feel specific to them, express their personality, and make them feel sexy and confident! Often clients will ask for creative direction, and I love collaborating with wardrobe and styling for what the lens will capture best. With music and lighting, we create an environment that is playful and relaxed. I always remind clients that I do boudoir photoshoots all the time. Nerves are completely normal and welcomed, but not needed! I’m always so excited to hear clients who entered a session with nervousness express how much fun they had at the end!
AN EXPRESSION OF SELF-LOVE
The most beautiful experience of these boudoir sessions is when my clients get to see their photos. It is so meaningful to read messages from clients post-sessions telling me how receiving theses photos made them feel: beautiful, sexy, empowered! I so strongly believe in keeping editing to a minimum, intentionally only touching-up temporary blemishes. In this way the boudoir photo sessions allows the subject to see themselves exactly as they are through a lens of value and beauty. Some clients have expressed that they cried when they received their photos, never fully seeing themselves in this way before. I never share photos without permission, but it’s always so incredible when a client expresses that they want their photos shared! I wish I could gift everyone I know with this kind of joy and self-love.
