It might not look like it, but this incredible Sedona Proposal Photography set up was the result of things not going to plan! Read on to find out how to make the most of your lower Cathedral Rock Engagement Photos (and to find out why Joe’s proposal plans had to change at the last-minute!).

There are only a few moments in your life quite as emotional as a marriage proposal – the nerves, the excitement, the unbridled joy! But what happens when it doesn’t quite go to plan? Joe had planned to propose to Jessica on a sunrise hot air balloon ride, but disaster struck when the ride was cancelled the night before due to strong winds. Luckily, I was able to come up with something to help Joe create a magical proposal for Jessica. While it wasn’t quite a surprise proposal, because Jessica had helped Joe pick the ring, she didn’t know it would be happening that morning. It was a really beautiful shoot to be a part of and it’s made me think – if you’re planning to propose, I’d love to help you create an extra special experience just like this!

SEDONA PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Sedona Proposal Photography

Of course, Sedona is famous for its red rock formations and its incredible wilderness areas, as well as for its bohemian (sometimes quirky) culture. This makes it an incredible place to explore and adventure. It also provides an amazing backdrop for Sedona Proposal Photography. You can really make a day of it – or hey, even a weekend away – eating out at beautiful restaurants, going hiking, or learning about the vortexes that many say surround the area.

Cathedral Rock Engagement Photos

If you’re planning Sedona engagement or proposal photos, and you’d like to do something adventurous, then lower Cathedral Rock is a great option! The red rock and desert vibes are truly beautiful, and – unlike the full Cathedral Hike track – the trail to arrive isn’t too difficult. It’s a short hike from the carpark, and it’s accessible all year round. Plus, there’s no need for special photo permits – you’ll just need to pay the usual $5 entrance fee. Cathedral Rock is a popular spot though, so it’s best to keep that in mind while planning. I’d suggest you plan your lower Cathedral Rock Engagement Photos for sunrise, like Jessica & Joe did. You might even get really lucky and have the whole place to yourself, to take in the beautiful views and enjoy the magic of the morning’s early hours.

Learning About Leave No Trace

Confession time: I always do my best to keep sustainability in mind at all times, especially when I’m planning shoots in natural settings like Cathedral Rock – but I’m still learning!

After sharing some images from this shoot with other photographers, I learnt that using rose petals on nature trails doesn’t adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace. I thought because rose petals are natural and biodegradable, it wasn’t a problem. Roses aren’t part of the natural environment at Cathedral Rock though, and they can potentially be damaging to local flora and fauna. I’m always seeking to learn and improve, and I now know that Leave No Trace means leaving nature trails, national parks, etc., the same way you found it.

It’s not easy sharing that I made a mistake, but I always want to be honest with you. I’m still so happy with these photos, and I’m so glad I was able to create this beautiful experience for Jessica & Joe’s Sedona Proposal Photography, but it’s not something I’ll be able to recreate. Still, if you’d like to plan an epic proposal, get in touch! I’d love to help you create something unique (and sustainable) to celebrate this incredible occasion.

“Emily was really there every step of the way whenever I needed her. She was definitely more than just a great photographer! [After] the hot air balloon ride got canceled, Emily came in clutch with an amazing backup plan so I could still propose to my girlfriend. She literally got up at 4am to make sure everything would be set up on time. She provided a special experience both me and my fiancée can cherish for a lifetime, and now we have beautiful engagement photos of these special moments.”

Are you planning your very own Sedona Proposal Photography? I’d love to photograph this moment for you to look back on for life. Get in touch now for more information and to check my availability.
