Lake Pleasant // Arizona // Couple/Announcement Session // Jillian & Matt

Jillian and Matt got married in January. They had a gorgeous wedding in my hometown of Prescott, AZ. I reached out to them, wanting to do a photoshoot at Lake Pleasant to take some water photos as the weather started to warm up.

They met me outside the entrance, hopped in my car and rode with me to the spot I used to go swim at. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the water was MUCH higher than it used to be. I love seeing our state with so much water and greenery. Hopefully it will help for wildfire season this summer.

Jillian and Matt were up for walking down to the water, and even splashing around a little bit. We took photos there  and then wandered up the hill to get some cacti shots; the sun was in the perfect location for a gorgeous blue backdrop when the lake was behind them. And Jillian’s dress was the perfect color for the setting.

To my delight, this couple had a special request. They wanted a few baby announcement photos taken. Jillian was only a couple weeks pregnant, but wanted the photos for when she was ready to tell everyone. So, we took some adorable photos with the balloons and a onesie they brought.

Sadly, about a week later Jill found out that her pregnancy was non-viable. Jillian is a strong woman and is incredibly fortunate to have the support of a loving husband. I know that they have a solid marriage and years to try again, but that doesn’t heal the pain.  It is a heartbreaking experience for anyone to go through, and happens more often than is talked about. 1 in 4 pregnancies result in miscarriage. It is important for the women who experience them to know that they are not alone and that they are loved.

I am so grateful that I got to capture this marriage at its beginning. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
